Lead acetate paper is a filter paper impregnated with lead acetate. It reacts with hydrogen sulfide changing color from white to brown-black. Lead acetate reacts with Hydrogen sulfide to yield black lead sulfide. In the presence of low hydrogen sulfide concentrations, however, the white paper assumes a brown color only.
Limit of sensitivity: 1 drop of a solution of 5 mg/liter sulfide gives a brown ring, which is just visible.
